While playing an Easter Sunday performance together in 2015, friend and Mississippi Symphony percussionist Jason Mathena mentioned that he was planning a marimba recital in the next couple of years. On this recital, he wanted to perform music of local composers and asked me to write a piece. I was excited for this opportunity because I was to have my senior recital in a year and Jason agreed to perform the work there first.

Capriccio is a high-energy work for solo marimba full of cascading arpeggios and intricate passages that are sure to be enjoyable for audience and performer alike.
