Upon composing this work, I did not have much of an idea of what the piece was "about." As time went on and music began to fill the page, I began to think of painting and the idea that composers "paint with sound." Caspar David Fredric is one of my favorite romantic landscape artists. The mysterious, romantic overture-like character of this piece reminded me a lot of Fredric's most famous work, "The Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog (Mist)".
